No hot water in Whitby or Brooklin? We repair, replace and install tank and tankless water heaters across the town, from the older homes near the lake to the newer estates up in Brooklin.
Call 647-248-7755, describe what it is doing, and you will get a straight answer on whether it is worth fixing or worth replacing before anyone comes out.
A water heater almost always warns you before it quits. The trick is knowing which warnings mean a cheap repair and which mean the tank itself is on its way out. Here is what the common ones usually point to.

Brooklin grew fast through the 2000s and 2010s, and a great many of its homes had their water heaters installed within a few years of each other. Most tanks are built to last around 8 to 12 years, so a large share of Brooklin’s water heaters are now reaching the age where repair stops making sense.
The rule we work to is simple. If the unit is under about ten years old and a single part has failed, such as a thermostat, an element or an anode rod, repair it. If it is older, or the tank itself is leaking, replacement is the better spend, and we will tell you so rather than sell you a repair that buys you six months.
In the older houses around downtown Whitby and Port Whitby, the water heater often vents up the same brick chimney as the original furnace. When that furnace was later swapped for a high-efficiency model vented out through the wall, the water heater was frequently left venting up the chimney on its own.
That matters when you replace it. A chimney sized for a furnace and a water heater together can be too large for a water heater alone, which affects how well it vents. So in these homes the replacement is not always a straight swap: it may need a chimney liner, or a power-vent model that vents through the wall instead. We check the venting before quoting, so you are not surprised on the day.
Tankless is also an option, and it vents differently again. It costs more up front and suits households that regularly run out of hot water.
Two things make the biggest difference. Draining a few litres from the bottom of the tank once a year clears the sediment that makes it rumble and heat slowly. And checking the anode rod every few years, replacing it before it is fully eaten away, protects the tank lining from rusting through. Neither is expensive, and both are cheaper than a new tank.
Check before you do anything else. It is common for new-build homes in Ontario to come with a rented water heater, and many Brooklin homes fall into that category. If yours is rented, a repair may be the rental company’s responsibility, and replacing it with one you own means ending the rental agreement first. Look for a rental sticker on the tank or a monthly charge on your bills. If you are not sure, call us and we will help you work it out.
AY Plumbing & Renovation Service is led by Agshin Yusifsoy. He runs the jobs himself and works alongside his team, so the person who quotes your work is the person overseeing it. A water heater is not a fixture swap: the size has to suit the household, the connections and venting have to be right, and the old unit has to come out and go somewhere.
You get the price before the work starts, the old tank taken away, and a straight answer on tank versus tankless rather than whichever one carries the better margin.
Whatever has gone wrong, it is probably on this list. Each service
has its own page with more detail. Or call and describe what is
happening and we will tell you what it involves before anyone is
sent out.

Quite possibly. Most tanks last around 8 to 12 years, and many Brooklin homes had theirs installed during the same building boom, so a lot of them are reaching the end together. If yours is original to the house and showing any warning signs, it is worth pricing a replacement now rather than waiting for it to fail.
Often we can. The exception is older Whitby homes where the water heater vents up a brick chimney it used to share with the furnace. If the furnace has since been upgraded, the chimney may be too large for the water heater on its own, and the replacement may need a liner or a power-vent model. We check this before quoting.
Look for a rental company sticker on the tank, or a monthly water heater charge on your utility or gas bill. New-build homes in Ontario often came with a rented unit. If it is rented, the rental company may be responsible for repairs, and you would need to end the agreement before replacing it with one you own.
Yes, we answer the phone 24 hours a day, including weekends. Call 647-248-7755 and we will tell you the soonest we can be there, and whether there is anything safe you can check in the meantime.
It can be, if your household regularly runs out of hot water or you want the floor space back. It costs more to install than a tank, and a first-time conversion is a bigger job. If your current tank comfortably covers what you use, a like-for-like replacement is usually the better value.
Turn off the cold water supply to the tank, and the power or gas if you can do so safely. A leak at the base usually means the tank itself has failed, and that can get worse suddenly. Then call 647-248-7755.
We work throughout Ajax, plus Pickering and Whitby across Durham Region.
