Scarborough is mostly postwar. A great deal of it went up between the late 1940s and the 1970s, which means bungalows and back-splits on mature, tree-lined streets, and drains that have been in the ground a long time.
Two things follow from that. The first is tree roots. Older clay and cast iron sewer laterals develop small cracks at the joints, roots find the moisture, and the drain blocks again every year or two no matter how often it is cleared. The east end is our strongest area, because it is closest. West Hill, Highland Creek, Guildwood, Morningside and the streets around Kingston Road are roughly fifteen minutes from us.
